I'm officially hooked on this anime. I've seen six episodes of this one so far, and am doing an afternoon anime-watching marathon of this one [as usual, nothing interesting is on TV]. If sci-fi anime is something you are into, you might like this show. Mind you - if you're looking for the usual sort of shoot 'em up or mecha-anime fair, Ergo Proxy might not be to your liking. I like it because it has an interesting storyline and manages to include references to mythology and philosophy, both Eastern and Western.
The story is set in a post apocalyptic future with the outside world having been ravaged by a global ecological disaster. The remaining people live within Romdeau City, a place considered to be a utopia by its citizens. Humans and androids, refered to as Autoraves, co-exist with each other for the most part. However, Autoraves that become infected with a virus referred to as the Cogito Virus become self aware and often violent towards humans, and for this reason are hunted down. The story centers around a woman named Real Mayer, an investigator who is the granddaughter of the regent of the city. She finds the utopia that humans have built boring, with life from day to day the same as those before it. She soon gets more excitement than she bargained for as she realizes that the recent deaths of humans that have been attributed to infected Autoraves may actually be due to another being.
I'm enjoying it so far. It's a thought-provoking mystery of sorts that has maintained my attention. I'll be delving back into this one in a little bit. And any anime that chooses a Radiohead song as its end theme is alright by me. XD
It took them long enough, but they enabled crossposting from VOX, among other things. Still no groups or such, but maybe later. I've got a midnight-themed layout over there [no black feathers, though].
I've been looking for something to fulfill an anime fix and/or a sci-fi fix. I heard about this one anime called Ergo Proxy which might fulfill both. It's reportedly a dark and violent sci-fi mystery, so I'm going to give it a try to see how it is.
Haha! It's almost upon you! For those who have no idea what I'm gabbing about, I'm referring to NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. It's a time where those of varying skills write furiously, attempting to complete 50,000 words in a month. It's the first time that I've participated, but I think that I might be able to pull it off. I've already decided the topic to write about and have a brief outline [which is allowed if not encouraged]. I'm just waiting for November 1 to roll around so that I can get started. It should prove to be fun.
I should also finish up another part of one of the continuing fan fics that I've got floating out there before starting NaNoWriMo, since I'm not sure when I'll get another part of one finished after the frenzy starts. Maybe after the weekend [hopefully sooner].
Just a random post with a few of the songs that have been on my iPod rotation lately:
Gold Lion by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I like the YYYs, because they are one of those kind of bands that harkens back to a more old school sound. Something about this particular song just gets to me. It's very sexy.
Nightmare by The World. This is the opening song to the new Death Note anime. It's a good J-rock song in my opinion. I'm trying to get more into that genre, as I've only heard a few bands. The longer version is even better than the TV sized one. [I can't get that one to upload properly, though. :( ]
Guilty Beauty Love by Miyano Mamoru. Miyano Mamoru is the Japanese seiyuu for Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club, and this is his character song. It's very happy and upbeat, and he has a lovely voice, so it works for me. He is also Light's seiyuu in the Death Note anime, which makes me strangely happy.
When I woke up this morning, it was freezing in my house. Had to turn on the heat, even. I had to go out this morning to run a few errands, and it was quite chilly outside. It's strange, since [to me at least] it seemed to be warm just a day or so ago. For some reason, I have a feeling that this winter is going to be a very cold one. I don't mind snow, just extreme amounts of cold.
As an aside: nice added features to VOX. It's getting to be a better service than before [and the cat layout is adorable!].
I finished seeing the entirety of this anime series, and I must say that it was a fun ride. It's based on a manga that Viz has been putting out in English for a while, which of course I had to pick up. The anime follows the manga pretty well, with some added bits and some situations changed a little. I highly recommend this one. What's it about? Well, the clip below sets it up the scenario pretty well.
It's probably only a matter of time before this anime gets grabbed by someone for an English dub. When it does, hopefully they will do it justice. For now, grab a download and check it out, or watch the eps on You Tube [there are versions by different fansubbers on there].
::blows the dust away:: I tend to use my LJ more than this place, but I need to use this account a bit since I have it. One of the reasons that I use LJ more frequently is probably because of the communities. I would love to see some kind of community feature or the ability to make groups here. I mean, come on - even You Tube has groups. It doesn't need to be the type of thing that LJ has. Many places have groups that are mini-forums, like Flickr, You Tube, and even Last Fm. One of the things that I use LJ for is finding out about new anime, chatting with people with similar interests, etc. I'd love to see an anime group on here, and maybe even a yaoi one.
On the subject of anime, I've gotten into one called Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok. It's actually rather fun. It centers around the dark god Loki of Norse mythology who was banished from his place in the heavens by Odin and forced to take the form of a child. In order to get back to the realm of the gods, Loki must capture enough of the evil auras of spirits. To do this, he runs a detective agency along with his assistant Yamino, who is more than he seems. Soon, a girl named Mayura, who is a fanatic for occult occurences and mysteries, decides to tag along. Things grow complicated when some of the gods descend on behalf of Odin in an effort to take Loki's life. Here is a clip from episode one of the English dub of the anime:
I've got to get my hands on the Loki manga. ADV had put out two volumes of it [from the middle of the series!] before dropping it. There are some scanlations of the first two volumes, but no others. I heard that you can buy the English version of the series from Singapore, but I don't know how feasible it would be for me to procure it. Hopefully, Tokyo Pop or someone else will pick up the manga series from the beginning.
One thing that made me sad and one that made me happy. Apparently Vox templates have been imported to Livejournal, but there you get to customize them whereas here we do not. : ( I'm already happy with my LJ layout's customization. I want to personalize this layout. Oh well.
I was pleased to see this Saiyuki AMV tonight. It's very touching [and the nod to Homura/Goku makes me wibble a little]. For some reason, VOX is being a little bitch to me today, and won't let me embed this from You Tube, so you'll have to go there the old fashioned way via link.
How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
AAHAAHAAAHAAAA!!!eleventy! Right...
Let's see. We actually live in a nice little slice of suburbia where most of the people in the neighborhood are rather pleasant. There are married couples with kids, some nice elderly couples, you get the picture. As far as next-door neighbors are concerned, let's just say that they aren't the type that I want to know. Not too friendly, keep to themselselves. Nothing wrong with 'keeping to yourself,' since I'm not the most outgoing person in the world. It's more of the 'not too friendly' that's the issue. Well, I was raised to treat someone with the same amount of bile pleasantness that's shown to me, so we don't really speak to each other. And I can't say that I care for their kids. Oh, I like kids. Just not their kids. Maybe it has to do with that time that their teenaged daughter was in our backyard in the evening in a compromising position [against one of our trees] with her boyfriend...
Nani?
So what have you eaten recently? When I'm feeling particularly lazy and not wanting to cook anything, I grab something like this out of the cabinet:
Don't frown too much! They're actually pretty good, and useful to take along for lunch and whatnot. There's a Thai version that is rather tasty, too. Which reminds me of how much I miss living in a more urban area. Whatever kind of meal you were in for, there was always a restaurant close at hand that dealt in it. I used to go to this little Thai place not so far from where I lived. I'm not that adventurous, so I'd only order certain dishes. Much better than eating something coming out of a package. Where I live now, there isn't much variety as far as the different types of restaurants around. It's annoying if you want to get any kind of real Asian cuisine. You end up traveling long distances for a decent place serving it if you're really in the mood for it. And I try to steer clear of those fusion restaurants that serve Western and Asian food, since I had the experience not so long ago of eating a bastardized version of Japanese food at one [and it was over-priced to boot!]. I could have made better tasting stuff, which is a little sad since I'm a beginner.
